Transmitter Media is a podcast production company specializing in highly edited and beautifully sound designed work. Our podcasts have reached tens of millions of listeners worldwide, are often included on “best-of” lists, and have received honors and awards from the Webbys to the Gracies. Proudly woman-owned and operated since 2017, our goal is to do creative work that is made by and for a diversity of voices and perspectives.
We produce podcasts in a range of styles, from serialized narratives to investigative journalism, branded series to talk shows. Our work includes Finding Fred, WorkLife with Adam Grant (TED), The Argument (The New York Times) and a Webby-winning episode of 30 for 30, about women long distance runners fighting for equality. In 2020 we will release several new narrative series, as well as our first in-house original show, a body positivity podcast entitled Rebel Eaters Club.
We are looking for an experienced Producer to join our team beginning in January 2020. Your time would be split between two projects: The Argument, our roundtable politics show with The New York Times (which will be getting a bit of a redesign for 2020, and we’ll be looking for creative ideas), and a narrative or storytelling project TBD.
Producers at Transmitter are responsible for varied duties at every stage of production including but not limited to:
Standard production tasks such as research, prep, in-studio host coaching, field producing, tape cutting, mixing, scoring, production coordination.
Assistance with interviews, writing, editing, and all stages of production, bringing an episode or story from the seeds of an idea to a final edit.
Listening to tape and identifying characters, stakes, missing narrative elements, essential interviews, and special portions of audio.
Working with external contributors and hosts through the production process, helping guide collaboration alongside internal staff.
Assisting with production logistics: travel, booking tape syncers, transcription, etc.
Liaising with clients on behalf of Transmitter, working to create a collegial relationship with hosts and other members of a show team.
Working closely with supervisors (Managing Producer/EP/Managing Editor) on through-lines and fleshing out narrative arcs.
An audio producer with 3+ years of experience in audio production.
Interested in politics and news.
Experienced at producing roundtable conversation shows, with an ear towards and interest in finding new ways to utilize the format.
Experienced in reporting, field producing and thinking in narrative arc.
An experienced and detail-oriented audio editor (we use Pro Tools).
A skilled multi-tasker.
Comfortable coaching hosts through script reads.
Able to travel occasionally when necessary for reporting trips and recordings.
This is a full-time New York-based position, with full benefits package.
Our comfortable office has two separate floors to work on, outdoor space, and is located in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
Our staff is friendly, welcoming, and invested in each others’ success. We love to organize skillshares, convene group listening discussions with snacks, and eat lunch together on our sunny deck.
Transmitter Media actively seeks employees from a diverse set of backgrounds, and actively encourages everyone to apply.
Please send resume, cover letter, and links to audio you've produced, along with a short written pitch (200 words max) for a segment on The Argument to email@example.com.
