Head of Policy Communications


A full time position at Interactive Advertising Bureau, Inc., New York NY, USA

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is looking for a Head of Policy Communications (Senior Director/VP, Public Policy Communications) — a masterful communications strategist with deep experience in developing and executing public policy communications plans that create awareness and drive engagement with policy makers, policy media, opinion leaders and the digital media ecosystem.

Advocacy and storytelling are your passion, and it shows in the way you harness traditional communications outlets and digital media platforms to tell differentiated stories that help advance public policy objectives. You are a seasoned expert in media relations supporting government relations and have direct experience with privacy, content, tech, CSR/ESG, and DEI initiatives, executing both reactive and proactive communications plans and strategies that shift reputation and perception.

This is a newly created role that will be an integral member of the Marketing and Communications Team reporting into the Senior Vice President.

As the Senior Director/VP, Public Policy Communications, you will lead and execute all communications efforts for a variety of policy-related initiatives and programs. Spearheading the development of strategic narratives and campaign plans, working closely with the IAB Executive Vice President of Public Policy as well as with Policy team leads from high-profile IAB member companies.

As the IAB spokesperson, you will interface with our designated PR agency to oversee campaign development and partner on broad messaging plans, issues-management planning, story-mining, rapid response communications, and materials on behalf of the campaigns and in partnership with the IAB member companies. The successful candidate is a self-starter, who understands the intersection of business, politics, and culture, is well-versed in the tech and media space and industry issues and has an affinity for strategic problem solving and project management.

You must be an idea machine and creative problem solver with strong visual aesthetic who can synthesize sophisticated policy issues and make them intriguing and actionable for our varied influential target audiences.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s’ degree or higher A passion for public policy and issue advocacy work 12+ years' experience executing public policy communications strategy, preferably with work experience at a major media or ad technology company 8+ years’ experience working with national and local media outlets to help advance public policy objectives. Expertise in synthesizing sophisticated policy and ad tech concepts into simple, yet intriguing language Demonstrated cross-functional leadership, taking ownership of communications programs, and building consensus across companies with varied priorities Hands-on expertise on all social media platforms, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat while staying on-the-pulse with social media trends to recommend the best use of each platform Track record of building, managing, and executing social media campaigns that grow followers and engagement, drive conversion, and improve website traffic Excellent writing skills with a knack for storytelling in both long and short-form mediums while maintaining a keen editor’s eye with copy and creative Effective listening, speaking and leadership skills with the ability to lead executive-level meetings and communicationsEffective listening, speaking and leadership skills with the ability to lead executive-level meetings and communicationsEffective listening, speaking and leadership skills with the ability to lead executive-level meetings and communicationsEffective listening, speaking and leadership skills with the ability to lead executive-level meetings and communications Experience across ad buying platforms on but not limited to: LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat Experience working in fast-paced, fluid and challenging environments, and are familiar with digital advertising and related issues Self-directed, detail-oriented, with formidable project management skills and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects under tight deadlines

Additional Information:

All employees of IAB are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment. Religious and medical exemptions will be provided in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

The ideal candidate will be able to commute to the NYC office and/or is based in Washington D.C.
