We’re looking for a forward-thinking and meticulously organized Manager, Operations and Business Analysis to join APM Studios, American Public Media’s podcast division. This role will be responsible for a variety of complex analytical, business and project management tasks to support the operation and monetization of APM Studios shows.
As a Manager, Operations and Business Analysis, you will be responsible for business and financial modeling and analysis, forecasting and budgeting, management reporting, and data analytics for APM Studios. By turning insights into strategies and models into plans, you will craft the process in which leaders and decision-makers across American Public Media Group understand and evaluate our business’s financial health and trajectory. Your work will change how public media makes the transition from a predominantly broadcast to a growing on-demand business that serves diverse audiences.
We are looking for individuals who have previous analytical experience working in a fast-paced, high volume content company, are tech-savvy, podcast obsessed, self-starting, resourceful, entrepreneurial, endlessly curious, and highly ambitious. We expect a strong analytical and financial background, impeccable time management and organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a growth mindset. The Manager, Operations and Business Analysis will report to the COO.

Working alongside Sr. Management, establish yearly performance and financial objectives that align with APM Studios’ plan for growth and expansion. Evaluate the financial potential of content acquisition targets and co-production opportunities Work hand-in-hand with colleagues in editorial, sales, subscription, membership and philanthropy in order to assess the financial potential of new shows and track the performance of existing shows Liaise with colleagues within APM Studios and Finance to track show and department P&Ls Liaise with Audience Insights to create dashboards which track key KPIs and drive business goals. Creating and maintaining data facets that increase the confidence in strategic decisions while driving operational efficiency by standardizing data, automating reporting and ultimately enabling faster, data-backed decisions Maintain short-, mid- and long-range forecasting models for APM Studios Partner with cross-functional leaders to understand their needs and generate hypotheses for future analysis Build strong relationships with teams that drive media sales, sponsorship, subscription, membership, institutional giving and major gift revenue, and build models that show how their respective revenue lines work together as we grow the APM Studios portfolio via new show launches and acquisitions Build presentations to communicate findings and strategic recommendations Produce and automate a wide variety of reports, including download and financial reports, broken down across various requirements, including quarterly, month and weekly snapshots as well as per-episode downloads and costs Supervise the work of the Coordinator, Operations and maintain oversight of the APM Studios budget Work with the Coordinator, Operations to create revenue reports for partners Drive the budget planning process for APM Studios Help foster a creative and productive work environment Other duties as assigned Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience MBA or 3-5 years’ of relevant experience in management consulting, financial services, data analysis or asset management at a media/tech company in an analytical or strategy role Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Superior analytical and forecasting skills Expert-level skills with Excel, Microsoft BI or similar forecasting tool Highly proficient technical skills with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Highly proficient technical skills with Google Office suite (Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides) Highly proficient technical skills with project management software (Asana or similar) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively and meet tight deadlines Ability to successfully meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis Outstanding communication and presentation skills Self-starter with excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks Demonstrated experience leading and managing projects Preferred Skills and Experience:
Previous employment in a consumer-facing content company Prior experience working with audio, social media, ad sales or content marketing Experience with production accounting Voracious podcast listener Experience working with talent Reporting to this Position: Operations Coordinator
